Malvern College’s second international campus, Malvern College Chengdu, opened in September 2015.
Located on a hillside above Chengdu, in China’s Sichuan Province, Malvern College Chengdu is an international secondary school for Chinese nationals backed by Malvern College UK and licensed by the Chinese authorities.
Now in its second year the school currently has around 100 pupils and is growing towards an ultimate capacity of 700 on a 25-acre site. In addition to studying for iGCSEs and A levels, students will have the opportunity to engage in a wide range of co-curricular activities such as sport, music, drama, art, debating and The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme. The school’s mission is to help students achieve their full potential, wherever their talents may lie, and prepare them for a university education in any English speaking country in the world.
Students at Malvern College Chengdu can take either a one or two-year course leading to iGCSEs as a preparation for A level courses. Subjects offered at the school include Maths, Further Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, English, Chinese, Physical Education, Economics, Business Studies and I.T. with an ancillary liberal arts programme focusing on developing high level English literacy and language skills. In addition there will be a Leadership Skills course and students will also have the opportunity to take supplementary classes for SAT, TOEFL and IELTS training.
The school is managed by the Headmaster, Malcolm Phillips, alongside the College’s Chinese partners, Babylon Education. Malvern College will have close and regular involvement in ensuring the quality of the educational offering through regular visits to Chengdu by members of the College’s senior management. Malvern College will also carry out rigorous ISI-type inspections each year to ensure that educational standards are met and maintained.
