Year 5 were taken on a magic carpet ride during the traditional Arabian folktale ‘Ali Baba and the 4 Thieves’ at the Sitara theatre company. With interactive theatre plus a dancing donkey, puppets and masks, music and madness, we enjoyed an unforgettable experience ! The children read the story of Ali Baba and then predicted how the playwright would approach various scenes in the play and discussed their predictions in the post-show talk. Pupils also developed their listening skills and a love of storytelling and literacy in general.
21st January saw our first ever MCE Languages Day. The day kicked off with the fabulous “Fantasia” a Primary Disney-themed concert in different languages and a host of other activities took place throughout the day from staff singing in different languages to ordering biscuits and hot chocolate in another language
On Wednesday, 19th December, years 1 & 2 pupils performed a breathtaking Winter concert. What a great way to end this term! You all did a great job, we really enjoyed watching your outstanding performance.
We were lucky enough to receive a visit from Santa Claus. The children were so excited and happy to see him. Some children had letters to give to him, other children gave him their Christmas lists as well. We sang him songs and recited poems. Santa gave all of the children within Early Years and year 1 a gift. We wish you all happy holidays!
On Monday, 17th December, Secondary students and Year 6 performed in a wonderful Winter concert to celebrate the end of term. To open the show our dynamic Year 6 choir sang three songs including their catchy ‘I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas’, and the Year 7&8 choir closed the show with an impressive Christmas jazz medley in 2-part harmony. Other highlights included our school band, an Elvis tribute, many expressive piano solos and a sneak preview of our forthcoming Secondary musical ‘Mary Poppins’, which will take place in our theatre in February. Congratulations to all students involved!
We enjoyed lots of festive fun on Elgar Charity Dress-up Day! Students looked splendid with their Christmas or red clothes. In both Primary and Secondary they participated in fun activities during the break times. We also had a real treat with carol singers visiting classes and secondary students reading winter stories to some of the Early Years classes. The teachers were able to taste a delicious winter drink too! Thank you to everyone who supported this event. We will announce the amount raised as soon as we can!
