DEPUTY HEAD OF SECONDARY SCHOOL (PASTORAL )

BRIEF OVERVIEW OF ROLE:


  • Responsibility for the Pastoral Programme in the Secondary School to include care for students, staff and parents
  • Deputise for the Head of School in their absence
  • Supporting the Head of Secondary School in the appraisal and development of Secondary School staff

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES ARE AS FOLLOWS:


Lead Heads of Year and Form Tutors

Lead a team of Form Tutors and a counsellor to ensure first class pastoral support is provided within the Malvern community. At the centre of this support will be the articulation of clear pastoral guidance and the development of strong relationships between students, staff and parents.


Develop the Pastoral Structure of the Secondary School

Work with the Head of Secondary School in adapting the pastoral structure so as to further improve the chance of developing long-­‐‑term informed relationships within the community of students, staff and parents. This will include exploring structures that improve vertical and horizontal student-­‐‑to-­‐‑student guidance and House-­‐‑based systems of support.


Personal, Social and Health Education, and Tutor Time

Manage and direct Form tutors in their delivery of the PSHE and Tutor programme. This will include suggesting topics and resources, and mapping the pastoral curriculum. Themes including International Mindedness, pre-­‐‑ Theory of Knowledge, Well-­‐‑Being and Careers guidance should complement the more obvious PSHE topics.


Student Assemblies and Parent Information Evenings

Manage the delivery of a varied and stimulating programme of assemblies, using students, staff and outside parties. Lead a series of presentation evenings currently directed towards parents throughout the year regarding pastoral and other school-­‐‑related matters.


Academic and Pastoral Monitoring

Liaise with the Head of Teaching and learning for KS3&4 and Form Tutors to ensure there is appropriate balance in students’ lives at different times of their school careers. Develop and monitor systems to ensure tracking data and targets are used appropriately.


Continual Professional Development

Contribute towards the professional development of staff as related to Pastoral Support in line with the school development plan.


Transitions

Liaise with the Primary School regarding the successful transition of students to the Secondary School. Maintain and develop strategies to smooth the transition of new students to and from our school.


GENERAL


To undertake any other duties as requested by the Headmaster of the College. The post holder will teach a reduced timetable agreed with the Head of Secondary School and also be a member of the Secondary School Leadership Team.
