JOB DESCRIPTION FOR ASSISTANT HEAD OF PRIMARY SCHOOL (CURRICULUM)

BRIEF OVERVIEW OF ROLE:


  • To maintain an effective and productive working relationship with the Head and Deputy Head of Primary School and to deputise for the Head and Deputy Head of Primary School when required.
  • To support the Head and Deputy Head of Primary School in promoting effective learning and teaching and the formulation of policy.
  • To be responsible for the learning and teaching in the Primary School
  • The continuity of students’ curriculum experience from Early Years, to Primary and into Secondary School
  • Supporting the Head and Deputy Head of Primary School in the performance management of staff in the Primary School.

EXPERIENCE


Minimum 2 years experience in working with students in the relevant age group. Experience in an international school is preferred but not essential. Experience of the British education system is preferred. Experience in teaching EAL students preferred. Experience in raising achievement and setting aspirational targets is essential.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • To support the Head and Deputy Head of Primary School in promoting effective learning and teaching and the formulation of policy.
  • Involving all Primary School staff in planning and evaluation;
  • Supporting and advising members of staff in the Primary School;
  • Monitoring curriculum content and delivery in the Primary School;
  • Assisting in the development of policies and schemes of work, ensuring that they reflect continuity and progression;
  • Lead and liaise with subject leaders and ensure that the provision of resources is appropriate to the delivery of the curriculum;
  • Ensuring that schemes of work are updated;
  • Monitoring of Primary School assessment requirements and ensuring that staff are implementing the agreed assessment and marking policy;
  • To support and encourage curricular and pastoral developments within the Primary School.
  • To share responsibility for the performance management of Primary school staff
  • Ensuring that the Head and Deputy of Primary School are kept informed on matters relating to curriculum in the Primary School.
  • Leading the data collection, processing and analysis for the Primary School and formulating value added targets

PERSONAL AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT


  • To take part in the performance management process of the College
  • To attend professional development training as required
  • To disseminate information from professional development attended

TEACHING


The Assistant Head will have a reduced teaching commitment
