backpack initiative 2018/19 We have had the first child within Early Years to bring in a filled backpack for our backpack initiative. The backpack contained all of the items which we have requested, 2 hygiene items, 2 pieces of stationery, 2 toys and a WOW item. The backpack was also clearly labelled for a girl between 4 and 7 years of age. Thank you to all the families who have provided backpacks so far. Please keep them coming into school! Year 10 & Year 11, along with parents, attended the International A Level vs. IB Diploma Programme presentation by Mrs Burnett, Head of Sixth Form and Mrs Maher, IBDP Coordinator. The differences between the qualifications were laid out and both students and parents developed a clearer understanding of the two programmes.
The final matches of the Primary Inter-House Football Tournament were very exciting. In particular, the Year 5 and 6 match had us all feeling very tense, as it went to penalties! In both the Year ¾ and 5/6 tournaments, Lewis were the winners. Congratulations to Lewis House and well played by all the other teams.
Darb1718 trip 2018/19 The Year 5 children visited Darb 1718 to experience a creative day as part of their introduction to the topic of Ancient Greeks. The children learned about the process of how clay is used to create pottery; they made their own bowls, decorated plates and even experienced time on a potter’s wheel.
Inter-house football tournament 2018/19 Primary School House Football – on the 12th of November, matches were both won by Lewis. Well done to them and well played by both teams. This now completes the first stage of our tournament. On Tuesday the third place finals will be played, and the ultimate final takes place on Wednesday. Good luck to all House teams!
CAC Swimming Competition 2018/19 CAC hosted a wonderful Swimming competition. MCE were great swimmers whom were also admired for their sportsmanship. Our pupils achieved 2nd and 3rd place in many events. MCE’s pupils won 40 medals (Gold, Silver and Bronze) in total. A fantastic achievement.
Remembrance Sunday marks an important date in MCE’s calendar. 2018 is a particularly poignant year as it also marks 100 years since the end of WW1. MCE Marked the occasion with a ceremony that included a two minutes silence. #RemembranceDay #MCE #LestWeForget #RemembranceSunday

Inter-house football tournament Primary School House Football – Both matches between Lewis and Elgar were won by Elgar – congratulations to them and fantastic effort by Lewis. The Year 3 and 4 match score was 3-1. The Year 5 and 6 match score was 1-0.
Open Day 5th November We were delighted to have prospective parents attend an open day at the College. Alongside taking a tour in our campus, the prospective parents had the chance to ask the questions that they had in mind regarding our College.
The Year 3, 4 & 5 children took the Primary School, Parents and special guests through a journey following Father Christmas around the World. We visited several countries and learned about various places and experiences he encounters on his mission to deliver all his presents. There were some great costumes, fantastic dancing and beautiful singing to be enjoyed. For some children this was their first experience to perform to such a large audience. Year 10 and 11 were fortunate to have 4 undergraduate students from Oxford University visit the College. They ran information sessions with tips on how to apply to Oxford and guidance on how to succeed in the university’s interview process. Our students then took part in a debating workshop preparing for the motion “This house believes that social media corrupts human interaction” with a final, focussed debate which produced plenty of great points of interest and discussion amongst our students.

This morning our families enjoyed a wonderful winter concert. All of the Early Years children from our youngest Pre-Nursery children through Nursery and Reception performed to the very best of their ability in the College theatre. The Pre-Nursery children, dressed as Christmas trees and Elves and sang three songs with enthusiasm and big smiles on their faces. The Nursery children, dressed as snowmen and snowgirls and all sang songs linked to snowmen and made a great snowmen dance together.
